Baby Clothes

Baby clothes should be loose and allow free movement so that they are comfortable. A baby will be miserable with dresses that have tight necks and sleeves. Cotton fabric should be used for dresses with either white or pastel shades. In the front you should have zips, hooks, press buttons or other methods of closure. Unless absolutely necessary you should make your baby wear plastic panties often. Severe diaper rash can develop with constant use of these panties since no air can pass through the diaper area and wet urine next to the rash constantly will make the rash painful. Especially in hot weather you should never over clothe your baby since this can lead to a painful heat rash. Children generate the same heat as adults and sometimes more so they only need the same amount of clothes as an adult. Elastic socks on a baby may cause problems with blood circulations and cause swelling which can be painful. Loose, easy fit, attractive, comfortable and easy to wash are the best attributes to find in baby’s clothes.

For hot weather a sleeveless cotton vest is a good idea. For cold weather you can make a long sleeved flannellete. For comfort you can make it with a front or back opening and tapes sewn.
You should have at least two dozen nappies. You can either make your own from voile or soft gauze, but there is also the option of buy them ready made. You can buy a big roll of gauze to make your own disposable nappies. Cut the gauze into square pieces the size of handkerchiefs and then put padding cotton on one half and fold over. Place this lengthwise under the babies hips and then pin up on either side. Then just throw off the nappy when your baby soils it. Then when your traveling you don’t have to worry about carrying the soiled nappies around with you.
You should have at least two panties that are plastic but lined with toweling. The waist and legs should be elastic.
You should have either cotton knit or cotton flannel night gowns with at least four to six available.
For cold weather you should have at least two coats and caps or two sweaters with a cap and sock set.
