Rheumatic Fever: Causes, Symptoms, Treatment Option
A disease that attacks the connective tissues, rheumatic fever typically has the common symptoms of fever and pain in the joints. There are little or no side effects in mild cases although there can be permanent heart damage in children who have severe cases. Slight fever, tiredness, a vague feeling of pain in the limbs and nose bleeds are the initial symptoms of this disease. By the second day the fever may reach up to 104 degrees Celsius and can continue for up to two weeks. Rheumatic fever pain can develop in the joints at any stage and they may also swell. Twitching movements of the body, rash and hard little balls or nodules that are seen or felt under the skin at the elbows, knees, wrist joints and backbone are other symptoms that can occur with this disease.
A child must be hospitalized if they have a case of Rheumatic fever since permanent damage to the heart can develop. Getting prompt and accurate diagnosis is very essential and treatment should be started at once.
