4 ways to help prevent diaper rash

There are different types of diaper rashes that your baby can suffer from and the best cure for diaper rash is actually prevention. Preventing diaper rash is not always possible but the following tips will help you in keeping your dear baby free of rashes.

1. If your baby has recurring diaper rashes, then it is an indication that your baby might need some other brand of diaper. So in that case you might have to switch from one type of disposable to another or switch from cloth to standard, etc. Some parents prefer to home-launder their baby's diapers. If this is the case then rinse them with a half a cup of vinegar or any other type of diaper rinse that you may like .If you really want to go the distance, then boil the clothes in water for about 15 minutes.

2. If the baby’s bottom is always covered then it might lead to diaper rash. Therefore you should allow for more air to go through to your baby's skin. Place your baby on a few folded diaper cloths or your own personal towels, make sure that the bedding underneath is water proof, and allow your baby to even sleep this way, if possible. Allow moisture to escape when your baby is wearing disposable diapers by poking holes through it. However, keep in mind that this will encourage more frequent diaper changes.

3. By limiting the amount of irritants, you can prevent your baby’s diaper rashes. For starters, your baby's diapers should be changed as often as possible, so that the irritants of urine and faeces can be cleaned up immediately. In addition to this, be cautious of the brand of wipes that you use for the cleaning purpose. They may contain elements that might irritate your baby's skin. Then you should simply move from one brand to another to find the wipes that do not induce irritations. The same goes for baby powders and lotions.

4. When a baby pees, the urination will reach all over their skin which may cause diaper rash. A way to protect areas of the baby's skin from this urine is to spread a thick protective layer of ointment on the baby's bottom, after thoroughly washing it. These 'blocking' spreads may be A & D, Desitin, zinc oxide, Nivea, etc.
