Using an Early Pregnancy Test

To check if a woman is pregnant or not there are a number of different pregnancy test types that can be used. A home pregnancy testing kit is the most common early pregnancy test used by women nowadays. Pharmacies and drug stores sell these kits and they are an extremely reliable form of early pregnancy test. Usually the home pregnancy test kits claim to be at least 97% accurate. A positive result from an early pregnancy test is highly unlikely to be false. If you use them less than seven days after a missed period however, they are not as accurate. This is because the urine has too small levels of HCG in the first few days of pregnancy so that they are not detected by early pregnancy tests.

All variety of brands are constantly trying to make an early pregnancy test kit available that can be able to detect smaller amounts of HCG in the urine. Around a week after your missed period is the best time to use a pregnancy test. Re-test with another early pregnancy test a week later if you have a negative result to double check the result. This way you get a guaranteed detection from an early pregnancy test since the HCG levels have been allowed to rise to a level of detection. Once your urine has built up over night the best time to use an early pregnancy test kit is first thing in the morning.

An early pregnancy test can also be done by a doctor or other health professional through the use of a blood test, which can be done a lot early than the home pregnancy test kits. Seven days after you late these pregnancy tests can be run which is about a week before your period is due and you still get good results. At least 99% is the accuracy of a blood test for an early pregnancy test. If the first was negative it is still important to perform another early pregnancy test a week later if you still haven’t had a period. Before ordering a pregnancy test a doctor will also take into account any other possible factors that can cause a missed period. It there is any doubt over the accurate of the test it is worth having a retest done since mistakes can be made in the testing lab that affect the result.
