A Guide to Early Pregnancy

From conception up to the 12th week of pregnancy is the first trimester which is the early stage of pregnancy. During early pregnancy you body is changing in a number of ways to adapt to the embryo growing inside.

Your period will stop completely or become extremely light as the first common symptom of early pregnancy. Most women usually take this sign to mean that they are in the early stages of pregnancy.

During early pregnancy women experience another symptom which is the dreaded morning sickness. Many women feel nauseous or experience vomiting at various points throughout the day and not just during the morning in early pregnancy so the name ‘morning sickness’ is a bit misleading. Eating small meals throughout the day, snack on crackers or toast and drinking juice or lemonade during early pregnancy is one way of alleviating the nausea. You can also alleviate this uncomfortable part of early pregnancy by eating ginger.

During early pregnancy some women may find that their breasts swell and become very tender. The nipples and the area around them, called the areola also get darker and broader.

Another symptom of early pregnancy is frequent urination. Due to the pressure of the growing fetus this problem is likely to get worse during pregnancy since pressure is exerted on the bladder. Knowing the location of the nearest toilet facilities is the best thing to do since there is nothing you can do about this symptom.

At any stage during their pregnancy tiredness is the affect most women feel. Get as much rest as possible and heed this sign. Due to the heightened risk of miscarriage that overexertion can cause it is particularly important to take care during your early pregnancy.

Constipation is another symptom during early pregnancy that many women have to endure. During early pregnancy heartburn can also be a problem so you should alter your diet to ease this problem. Throughout the nine months you should make sure you diet is a healthy and balanced one. Both you and your unborn child can benefit from this. You should consult a health professional if you are concerned about the mood swings which are another common symptom if they are too much for you to cope with.

Make sure you do not take anything that may affect your baby since there are a number of remedies available to help a woman deal with the discomforts of pregnancy. This is especially important during the formative period of early pregnancy. Before buying any over the counter medications it is always best to consult your doctor first.
