An Explanation of an Ectopic PregnancyAn out of place pregnancy is the best way to describe an ectopic pregnancy. Instead of traveling down to the uterus the fertilized egg remains trapped in the woman’s fallopian tube. An ectopic pregnancy is when the embryo begins to develop in the fallopian tube. For the mother this is an extremely dangerous condition and at the earliest opportunity it is important to remove he embryo to prevent any damage to the mother’s internal organs. A woman will need to be kept under close observation, but it is still possible for a woman to have a normal pregnancy after this procedure. A small, hollow muscular tube is the fallopian tube which has a delicate mucous lining membrane that is thrown up into folds which almost fill the tube. Inflammation or infection can damage this membrane which then make it impossible to transport the egg down to the uterus. The embryo still wants a normal development so it implants in the lining of the fallopian tubes causing an ectopic pregnancy. Only one percent of pregnancies are ectopic so it is relatively rare, but for the mother it is extremely dangerous. The tube can burst or become severely damaged if the baby continues to grow inside the tube. A woman who thinks they have an ectopic pregnancy must seek medical help immediately. A severe pain in the lower tummy area is the first sign of an ectopic pregnancy. To find the cause it is vital for a woman to have herself checked out since this pain may not be due to an ectopic pregnancy. Sudden pain and vaginal bleeding can come from an ectopic pregnancy. An ectopic pregnancy causes a number of symptoms. The most common is a sharp and persistent pain in the woman’s side. Which a woman breathes in and out another sign is a pain the shoulder tips which means internal bleeding is irritating the diaphragm. Ectopic pregnancy signs may also include bladder or bowel problems. A health professional should investigate any pain while passing water or having a bowel movement to determine if it is a symptom of an ectopic pregnancy or not. Dizziness or fainting, paleness, increasing pulse rate, sickness, diarrhea and falling blood pressure or a general feeling of something being wrong can also develop with an ectopic pregnancy. To eliminate an ectopic pregnancy as a cause it is important that a woman have herself checked out by a health professional. During a pregnancy a woman should report any unusual feelings or symptoms that occur even if they don’t have an ectopic pregnancy. |
