The National Day to Prevent Teen PregnancyTeens are asked to go online and take a fun and engaging quiz that gives them several real life scenarios involving sex and asks them to choose a course of action on the National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy. May 3, 2006 is the next National Day. The Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy organizes the National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy. In the 2005 National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy over 630,000 teens participated by taking the online quiz. In 2002 the first annual National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy took place and 75,000 participated. Nearly 300,000 people from all fifty states participated in the 2003 National Day Quiz. The National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy Quiz in 2004 drew 560,000 individuals. Anyone over the age of thirteen is targeted by the quiz and it is designed to help teens learn how they can avoid teen pregnancy. After taking the test it is obvious that many teens do not know as much as they thought they did about avoiding teen pregnancy. Over recent years teen pregnancy has declined in the United States but about 35% of girls still get pregnant in the United States by the age of twenty at least once. A lot of teens think it cannot happen to them even though they are concerned about teen pregnancy. Not using the appropriate protection since they weren’t planning on having sex is often results in teen pregnancy. To help teens come up with their own plans for avoiding pregnancy the National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy designed their online quiz. A number of different youth and health organizations support the Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy. Giving teens more awareness of how to avoid becoming another statistic in teen pregnancy is the dedication of all these supporters. The Campaign’s own Youth Leadership Team developed the quiz through the help and critique of teens and many other organizations including Teen People’s 10,000 trendspotters, the Campaign’s Youth Online Network and teen visitors to the Campaign’s website. Since teens spend a lot of time on the internet an internet based quiz and information site is often better than simply handing out leaflets at schools and youth organizations. For any research topic many teen’s first point to turn to is the internet. Even if they don’t have internet access at home teen can access it from school and other venues and are very comfortable using it. Information on behalf of teen clients can also be obtained by health professionals. All participants are invited to visit the National Campaign’s website once they take the quiz to find further information on teen pregnancy and prevention tactics. To help prevent teen pregnancy they can also join the online network and contribute to future quizzes and events. |
