Stomach Problems

Gastric Trouble

A handful of mint leaves boiled for five minutes in a cup of water with a pinch of bicarbonate soda is a good remedy for gastric trouble. While hot a child should sip it slowly.

Stomach Pain

A half teaspoon of fresh onion juice added to a pinch of black salt and roasted asafetida or thing put on the child can help with stomach pain. Another option is to grind a little asafetida and put it in a teaspoon of water. Hold it over a flame until it is milky in appearance and thick. Remove it from the flame and allow it to cool.

For infants and children most abdominal pain conditions are harmless. Up to three months the most common cause of abdominal pain in a infant is colic. Colic causes a cramping pain that is periodic. With colic a baby will begin to scream suddenly, double up their legs and their abdomen becomes swollen. Holding the baby and burping them along with giving them a little bit of gripe mixture will help relieve the pain of colic. Pain will be relieved considerably if they pass stools. A baby should be given antispasmodic medicine if nothing helps. You should consult your doctor about the proper dosage. Three months colic got its name because the pain that accompanies it typically lasts for three months only.

Appendicitis is another common form of abdominal pain that requires an operation. A loss of appetite and mild pain in the upper or central portion of the abdomen is the typical beginning signs of appendicitis. A child may run a temperature and vomit. The pain will start to move gradually towards the right lower portion of the abdomen and the severity will increase. Severe diarrhea or constipation may accompany the condition. You should take a baby to the doctor immediately if they have any of these symptoms since an inflamed appendix must be removed right away before it bursts and results in death.

Constipation

Give a child glucand regularly to prevent constipation. Remove fresh rose petals in the morning and rub them gently in your hands. Then weight the petals and take double the quantity of sugar. Use a wide mouthed bottle that has a tight fitting lid. Place the petals in a thick layer at the bottom and sprinkle with sugar. Alternate between a layer of petals and a sprinkling of sugar until all the ingredients are used up. Cover the bottle and tie the mouth with a piece of cloth. Leave the bottle in the sun for a month. A teaspoon of glucand taken regularly will relieve constipation and induce a real appetite in a child. There are also the additional benefits of helping scabies subside, add heat in the body, and improving the complexion. Women who have hypertension can also benefit from these as well as pregnant women since it tones up the fetus.

Diarrhea and Dysentery

‘Amrit-dhara’ is the best remedy for diarrhea and dysentery. You will need one tbs each of camphour, essence of ‘tymol’ or ajwain and essence of mint. Within two hours it is ready by placing all the ingredients in a clean bottle. The formula will last indefinitely. You can either put a few drops in a teaspoon of sugar and have the child eat it before giving them a glass of water to drink or you can mix a few drops of it in a glass of water for a child to drink. This formula will also help cure nausea, cramps in the stomach, stomach pain, toothache and earache in addition to diarrhea and dysentery.

Mix a few drops of Arnritdhara in ¼ teaspoon of warm mustard or sweet oil for earache. Pour it into the aching ear. For a toothache soak a cotton wool piece in the Amritdhara and the stuff it near the tooth that is aching for immediate relief. Even brandy will relieve a toothache if there is no Amritdhara.
