How to Look After Twins?

If you are going to give birth to twins a doctor can often tell you in advance. Employing a dependable nursemaid to help around the house is a good idea for a woman who has the advanced information of knowing she is going to have twins, otherwise the mother may have a nervous break down trying to look after twins and housework at the same time.

Make sure the twins sleep in separate cribs once they arrive so that you can take one that fusses out of the room, this way they won’t disturb the other child if they are sleeping peacefully.

It is best to bath the twins one at a time and in the same tub. The mother can hand off the first baby to the helper to dress while the mother beings bathing the second child. Father than fixing sixteen bottles of formula each day it is much easier on a mother to breast feed twins. Some mothers learn to simultaneously feed their twins. Place one twin in the law and use its stomach as a pillow for the other baby, another way is to tuck one under each arm supported by pillows. Until they reach the age of six months the mother will have plenty of milk for the twins. The stronger sucker of the twins will be able to stimulate both breasts to a higher milk production rate if you do not keep the same baby on the same side all the time. A mother should eat one or two extra meals a day that are high in protein and calcium foods if she is going to nurse twins. Additional calcium and Vitamin B complex tablets can be taken if the mother begins to lose weight or feels tired or depressed. Spoon feeding both the twins at the same time form the same dish with the same spoon is a great time saver once the twins are introduced to solid food.

In order to encourage individuality you should not dress twins in identical clothes or give them the same toys. If you don’t do this then when they grow up they may have a hard time living separately and making their own homes because they have become so fond of each other. Introduce them to other children in the neighborhood at an early age so that they won’t be fond of each other exclusively. For this reason you should also encourage them to make their own separate friends.
